This is a very old building and it has a lot of character. The room was large and maybe a little quirky, but in a good way. There was an extra single bed in the room. The closet was large and the bathroom was nice. The room overlooked the beer garden outside which was pretty noisy early in the afternoon and evening, but quiet late at night. The pub downstairs was excellent and well worth a visit. The breakfast (extra) was great too and made to order. Probably the best bed pillows of our trip too! Great location too, close to York Minster Cathedral and The Shambles.

What's not to like. We enjoyed everything the hotel had to offer. The staff was polite, friendly, helpful always smiling. Really helped make the stay perfect The food was out of this world. We tried the pies, I had chicken and bacon. Just WOW and the full Yorkshire breakfast was really nice also. For a building 7 century's old. All the little imperfections just added to the character and charisma. The slanted floors did take some getting used to.

It wasn't our first stay here, but if possible it was even better. The room was fantastic - super clean and comfortable with a luxurious 4-poster bed and a spectacular view of York Minster. The team were all lovely, so cheerful and couldn't be more helpful. Everything in the hotel is just easy - perfect location right in the centre of York, the on-site restaurant serves fabulous food and the bar is great. The history, of course, is brilliant, too.

The room was very cozy warm it has great room went with my friend he really likes the place to the bed was very comfortable and I had good night sleep the food was really good also would come back.Staff was very friendly and helpful and also very nice the history of the place is very interesting did get bit of spirit activity with rempod couple of noise from cupboard and chair. Conveniently located to all the walking downtown historic locations. We stayed 1 night only. We wish we had 1 more day in York. Overnight parking was just a 8 minute walk. We did that after dropping our bags off by parking on the street beside the hotel. During peak hours there is no cars allowed on most of the historic streets. Be sure to find the 30+ cat statues located in the historic village.
